Respect Life

10-07-2018From the Pastor's DeskRev. Msgr. Ellsworth R. Walden

As we celebrate Respect Life Sunday today, I share with you the above pictures of my great niece Paige. At just over 24 weeks she was taken from her mother’s womb because she was not receiving nourishment in the womb and would have died there. She came out weighing fourteen ounces and being ten inches long. During her first eight months she was in the care of two hospitals and now is finally home with her parents. As you look at the picture on the left, you see her father’s hand putting her mother’s wedding ring over her foot onto her leg. When you look at the picture on the right you would not readily see the same ring on her pajamas unless the arrow was pointing to it. She is a miracle.

Current medical technology, constant prayer, and the daily presence of her parents have brought her to where she is home with her parents and growing more and more healthy. She still needs some oxygen to breathe and has a feeding tube in her stomach, but she is a joyful, bubbly baby, a true gift to her parents.

Medical technology works wonders today, but it also carries the horrible blotch of abortion. Babies like Paige at her birth are aborted efficiently and add to the 930,000 who have their lives taken every year legally in our nation. The current controversy surrounding the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court is fueled by those who are fearful he will be the vote to overturn Roe vs. Wade and make abortion illegal once again. Even should that happen, abortion will still have legal support from those states that enact laws to do so. The evil of abortion brings out the worst in human beings as we see in the way Judge Kavanaugh has been treated, investigated, and addressed by abortion’s staunchest supporters in our government. The easiest way to cast doubt on anyone is to accuse them of a sexual crime. Right away the alleged perpetrator is guilty and has a very hard path to prove innocence if he or she is not guilty.

The American legal system says a person is innocent until proven guilty. As evil a crime of sexual assault is, killing the unborn innocently growing in a mother’s womb is an abomination and surely those responsible in any way are on the road to damnation. Satan has his disciples in our government and many in our nation. In a nation that has so many blessings, we have the absolute worst record of any tyrant or dictator in history - 60 million infants killed and counting (that is, 2,548 every day and 106 every hour). Our land of “beautiful and for spacious skies” is rejecting, mocking, and defying the grace God sheds on her.
