. . . . and the word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

- John 1:14

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled.  This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria. So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town.  And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.  While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son.  She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Faces of Advent 2007

Fr. Walden

From the Pastor's Desk:

Merry Christmas!  This is the season that fills our hearts with joy as we give and receive gifts.  All of this happens because we are filled with gratitude for the gift of God himself in Jesus.  It the gift of this person that fills our hearts and fuels our desire to give to one another.  A gift is something we receive or give simply as an act of love.  Anything else we feel we deserve, have to earn or give a gift in return for.  Our response for the gift of Jesus is humble gratitude.  The challenge is to keep the attitude of humble gratitude in all we do and have everyday of our lives.

Fr. Jilson

From the Desk of Fr. Jilson:

In the movie The Greatest Story Ever Told, there is a scene which attracts our attention.  Jesus is walking in the company of his disciples, and tax collector Matthew asks Jesus, "Do you have anything to declare?" But because of the noise of the crowd Jesus does not hear it.  Hence, Matthew asks John, "Does your master have anything to declare?" Immediately John replies, "Yes, his love for you!"

Fr. Patrick

From the Desk or Fr. Patrick:

What’s so exciting about this time of the year is that we all have another opportunity to join millions of Christians around the world in celebrating the birth of someone very special-someone who has brought so much hope and joy into the lives and hearts of so many people throughout these past twenty centuries - someone who has cared for us and who has shown us all the Father’s love; a love unlike any other!  We as Christians have the opportunity to rejoice because this someone special is Jesus Christ - someone whom we love and cherish so much.

Fr. Fred

From the Desk of Fr. Fred:

As we reflect upon Christmas 2007, what comes to mind?  Is it the anxiety of all the Christmas rush and gift-buying?  Is it, "I couldn’t afford much this year and my family will be disappointed?"

Fr. Anselm

From the Desk of Fr. Anselm:

Taking a look at or reflecting on Christmas, one may have two choices: taking the way of its historicity or reading its salvific undertone.  I may be tempted to delve into its historical origin, but the focus today, I believe, is not on that as such.  It is on its salvific significance in the economy of salvation.  Thank God, the Holy Spirit led the early Church to replace the preexisting winter solstice pagan festivals of Saturnalia (in honor of Saturn), Mithras birthday of December 25th - adopted sun god of the ancient Iran, Juvenalia (in honor of Roman children), and other related festivals of Ancient Rome.

Seminarian John Ryan

From the Desk of Seminarian John Ryan:

As a seminarian studying for the priesthood at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, I am blessed to be placed here at St. Patrick’s Church during my Pastoral Year.  Immediately upon my arrival, I was warmly greeted by Msgr. Walden and was soon to realize his zeal, joy, compassion and care for the people of the community.  The priests of St. Patrick’s - Fr. Jilson, Fr. Patrick, Fr. Fred and Fr. Anselm - are all filled with the love and joy of Christ, and it flows out into the people.  The priests here are teachers, mentors, and great role models for me, and they are here for the people of the parish.
