Devotional Committee

It was the hope of Pop John Paul II that the bimillenial celebration of the mystery of the Incarnation would be "one of unceasing hymn of praise to the Trinity... as a journey of reconciliation and a sign of true hope for all who look to Christ and to his Church."  In the same vein, our Bishop requested each Parish to host a prayerful event to mark the beginning of the Jubilee year.  At St. Patrick's, members of several parish organizations joined forces and hosted a new Year's Eve Celebration to remember, which included a dinner, three Holy Hours, a Midnight mass, and Nocturnal Adoration.  This was the beginning of what would eventually become the St. Patrick Devotional Committee.

Devotional Committee

A second bi-millenial celebration sponsored by the group was a pilgrimage to the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, Massachusetts on Saturday, June 25,2000.  The journey included a Family Rosary on the bus, a picnic lunch, a tour of the magnificent chapel and beautiful grounds on Eden Hill, and a sharing in the celebration of the Eucharist with a Portuguese pilgrimage.  Following the Mass, the families joined the Marians in praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Novena.

On Saturday, October 7, 2000, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, Pope john Paul II entrusted the world and the Third Milennium to the protection of the Immaculate Heart of Mary during the Jubilee of Bishops at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.  Once again, members of several parish organizations joined together to host prayerful evening at St. Patrick's. The evening included an entrusting ceremony, the recitation of the Rosary, and a candlelight procession and "living Rosary" performed by a group of 70 children.  The event continued with a family dinner in St. Patrick's Father Canning Hall.

At the end of the Jubilee year, there was desire to again have a new Year's Eve Celebration, and again the parish organizations joined forces to accomplish yet another spiritual evening.

After that event, the group decided to formalize its endeavors with a new parish committee focusing on promoting and fostering devotional life in order to bring people closer to the Holy Eucharis.  The St. Patrick Church Devotional Committee was duly formed in September 2001.  Its purpose is to (1) promote a spirituality of communion by developing and coordinating forums, pilgrimages and structures for devotional life; (2) create and implement a plan of vocational promotion, promoting vocations to Priesthood and promote the true meaning of Marriage and the family as a fundamental Catholic institution, through family prayers, pilgrimages and other activities.  Membership in the committee is open to all registered parishioners.  The committee conducts annual enrollment of membership, but members may be admitted at any time.

It is the goal of the committee to include a representative from each parish organization.  Presently, the committee includes representatives of the Coloumbiettes, Legion of Mary, Nocturanl Adoration Society, Parents' Guild, Pro-Life Family, Religious Formation, Rosary Altar Society, Sacred Heart Prayer Group, Youth Community, as well as other parishioners.

The committee sponsors family pilgrimages, a family Rosary, the New Year;s Eve celebration, Divine Mercy Sunday, and other devotional occasiions, and supports and coordinates the other devotional organizations in the parish in accomplishing their goals.
