In our earthly fathers, we sometimes catch a glimpse of our heavenly Father,  When they love us unconditionally, forgive us, cherish us, we better understand God, the Father, whose love for us is even greater.

Mens Prayer Group

Being a good husband and father in the day-to-day grind we all live in is no easy task.  Some men within our parish have found inspiration and camaraderie in the Men's Prayer Group.

The Men's Prayer Group met for the first time on January 8, 2000.  On that morning, five men met with Father Douglas Arcoleo in the rectory living room.  The men expressed an interest in deepening their relationship with God so they could, in turn, sanctify their relationships with their neighbors (particularly their wives and children).  One result of the meeting was the creation of a regular meeting time - 7:30 AM on Saturday mornings.

A typical meeting begins with the priest- moderator acknowledging the presence of God with a spongtaneous prayer that naturally flows into the recitation of the Holy Rosary,  After a brief pause, volunteers are asked to read aloud the readings for the upcoming Sunday Mass.  The Gospel acclamation is sung and the priest-moderator then presents the Sunday Gospel.  After a few minutes of silent reflection, the men acknowledge that they have been called by name to be there and audibly state their names.

What takes place next can vary, as the men seek to follow the direction of the Holy Spirit.  At times, the men are drawn into meditation.  At other times, an exegesis of the sacred texts is offered, followed by an application to daily life.  It is at these times that the liveliest exchanges take place.  The meetings close with an invitation for the men to "pray to the Lord" after the model provided for them at the Holy Mass.  The men then make their way ito curch for the 9:AM Mass.

The fruits of this gathering are quite visible.  Some of the men have become daily communicants.  Others have become active members in parish organizations.  Perhaps the most beautiful fruits of all are the social bonds rooted in Christ that have emerged.
