Arts, Culture and Community

The lives of our students have been enriched in many ways since 1997.  Classrooms have been outfitted with lockers and new desks, overhead projectors are used on a daily basis in the classrooms.  After two years of research and a lot of footwork, the school cafeteria opened in September of 2001.  Approximately 400 students are fed every day.  Needless to say, it is a big hit.  The cafeteria has certainly generated many opportunities for fun as well as the building of community within the school and parish.  Many groups now benefit from this program including the Youth Communities , Parents' Guild , and the Catholic Daughters .  In fact, Mr. Maggiacomo, the former Youth Administrator, provided a great deal of support and knowledge to us in the formation of this program.  Much appreciation goes to Mr. Ed DeRose, the cafeteria manager, who graciously volunteers his time to this endeavor on a daily basis.  The formation of the Student Council in 1998 has led to the participation of students in grades four through eight in the life of the school.  The Student Council has sponsored "Penny Wars," a Valentine's Party, and dress down days to raise funds for the victims' families of September 11, 2001.  They participated in a joint effort with St. Joseph College to raise funds to build housing in San Salvador as well.  They provided asistance at our Catholic School Week Open House on Sunday, January 27, 2002.  Mrs. Sadicario shares her moderator duties with the seventh and eigth grade social studies teachers.  This year Mr. Joseph Bienz has led the Student Council very will.  He is a valuable asset to our departmental team of Ms. Kim Eiden (Science), Mrs. MaryAnn Hahn (Math), Mrs. Patricia De Graw (Language Arts), and Mrs. Corinne Marciano (Spanish, Music Art).  The students have participated in overnight trips to a variety of locations such as Williamsburg, Boston and Washington D.C.  This year the eighth grade visited the Amish countryside and Hershey Park.

The Cultural Arts Program, founded by Mrs. Linda Ward, the former Assistant Principal of St. Patrick's, from 1997 to 2001, widened the cultural horizons of our children through a variety of experiences.  Students were given the opportunity to learn about the production end of ballets and shows.  Assemblies have been brought to the school so that all the children could reap the rewards of these experiences.  Mrs. Ward's legacy is carried on by Mrs. Maria Spina, a first grade teacher who has researched the best opportunities for this year's programs.  The Parents' Guild continues to support the school in all their endeavors when asked.  After school activities have been enjoyed by many children.  The Drama Club, moderated by Mrs. Wagner and Mrs. Spina, has given many presentations to the school students.  Many of the plays that were performed were written by Mrs. Spina, who is now expecting her first child.  We have had cheerleading led my Mrs. Cindy Marsh, chess led by Mr Chritopher Bien, and indoor soccer and voleyball moderated by Ms. Pasieka and Mrs. Frend.  Father Frank has generously given of his time to play football with the older boys on Friday afternnons.  Mrs. Adamo has also moderated a Scrabble Club; there was a School Newspaper Club after school run by Ms. Alison Papernick and the eighth grade yearbook committee gives of their own time before school and after school to put together a great yearbook.  For the past two years, Ms. Kim Eiden has been the faculty advisor for the yearbook.

Without the assistance and support of the faculty and staff of St. Patrick's, none of the above would be possible.  Mrs. Kaminsky and Mrs. Staber, the school secretaries, are an integral part of St. Patrick School.  They work with the children, the teachers, and parents on a daily basis to keep the school working effectively and efficiently.  Mrs. Makris, our school nurse, goes out of her way to make sure that all the members of St. Patrick's family are well taken care of on a daily basis.  Our Custodial staff lends great assistance to us during the day.  Much thanks to Kevin Smith and Lou Giambertone.

Mrs. Sadicario truly believes that a good school is always getting better.  As teachers and staff take on leadership roles, they gain ownership of their school, they have a vested interest in making a better place for all.  Thanks to all the administrators, the teachers, teacher assistants, and staff, both present and former, for the enriching the life of St. Patrick School and the lives of the children.
