St. Patrick's R.C. ChurchStained Glass WindowsThe Gospel StoriesGlancing to the left and right sides of the nave at St. Patrick’s Church, a series of six stained glass windows comes into view. They are devoted to scenes from the Gospels, the “Good News” of the life on Jesus and it’s promise and hope of redemption. The scenes are not arbitrary. In an ordered fashion, they span the life of Christ. The story unfolds on the eastern wall (left when facing the altar) of the nave. The first two windows are about beginings. The “Navitity” is where the birth of the Christ child ushers in the beginning of Jesus’ time on earth. The “ Wedding at Cana” is the beginning of Jesus' ministry. The ministry of Jesus can be seen in the next two windows which are located at the back of the east and west walls. The “Sermon on the Mount” is where Jesus set forth the principles of his ministry. The “Washing of the Disciple’s Feet” can be considered among other things as the beginning of the priesthood, the passing on of his ministry. The end of the Ministry of Jesus, is actually a new beginning. The last two windows are located on the west wall (right side facing the altar) of the nave. The “Last Supper” is where Jesus instituted the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist and commanded us to “do this in memory of me.” It is where Judas, the betrayer, set in motion the events that led to sacrifice on Calvary. The “Resurrected Jesus” is the end of Jesus’ ministry on earth. More importantly it is the fulfillment of the promise of redemption and a new beginning of life through and with him. In conjunction with this, the round window, found above the altar cross in the sanctuary, shows the empty “Tomb of the Risen Christ.” |
